I've always dreamed of going places. And though I can't find someone to go with, I'm going anyway.
Here's a blog about the places I've been to, the places I'd like to visit, and finding my own soil.
There's a notion that a Filipina cannot travel alone, or that a woman has to be accompanied at least by a man for a safe journey. "Alone" has become a stigma translating to loserdom. Being seen alone has become something to worry about-- it's either people will think you have no friends, or that you are too ugly or too difficult for men.
People do not realize that even with family, lovers and friends, we still take the journey alone. Nobody can fully comprehend your pain besides you. You alone can decide your happiness. You alone suffer the consequences of your actions and decisions. You alone is responsible for what did, or didn't become of you. You.
I'm breaking the stigma. I refuse to stay home just because my friends aren't available for my next trip. And even if I have someone to go with, I'm aware that they don't hold the key to my enjoyment. The key belongs to me.
